The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) made a giant stride towards research commercialization
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) and the University Business Linkage Cell (UBL) commercialized its first research based invention in its history by transferring the technology through an exclusive license agreement to Beam Hela Osu Lanka (Pvt) Ltd for manufacturing and distribution rights of the product.
This Sudarshana Suspension was innovated by a team of researchers from the faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJ) and the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo (UOC). The research team members are Dr. Saroja Weerakoon (UOC), Dr. Kamal Perera (UOC), Prof. Sugandhika Suresh (USJ) and Prof. Dulanie Gunasekera (USJ).
Sudarshana Suspension is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of viral fever, phlegm, allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, inflammatory arthritis, pain and allergic skin conditions. It provides potent antioxidant protection. This medicine has been proclaimed by the State Ministry of Indigenous Medicine of Sri Lanka as a candidate for fighting against COVID-19. Plans are being made to conduct a clinical trial to test the efficacy of this suspension in the treatment of persons with COVID-19 infection.
The product launch of “Sudarshana Suspension” was held in the evening of Tuesday 30th March 2021 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The event was graced by Hon State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Hon State Minister Sisira Jayakodi and other distinguished guests.
